Nights in Mumbai...

Our first night was good, and we had a nice restaurant with room service although Lee who had already been there for 2 nights was a bit skeptical of any of the food! We spend the next day just checking out the town and all the little street markets. We later moved to the apartment (with toilets) that we stayed at for about 9 days. In that time 2 dance shows, one was for New Years Eve, at a classy race course...we had a little stage and everything, but unfortunately straight after 12 people got drunk so we finished early. The other event was a 15th anniversary for Zee productions, it was great except we were told it was a wedding...I think something got lost in the translation! Then unfortunately I caught the bug (no not the travel bug, something as referred to as Delhi Belly!) So I became skeptical of everything I ate! Luckily the shop down the road from us sold Pringles, rusks and lays! That became my strict diet for a while. (By the way their Chips/Crisps are similar to ours in packaging and look...but the flavours are all different! No salt and vinegar instead you have magic masala? I opted for lightly salted!!!!!!!!)
Washing day in our apartment! (This load is mainly our Belly Dancing costumes)
The shop also had fresh fruit and vegetables and a pay phone! Yah! We have a shop close to our house called D-mart...it literally sells everything! So we visit D-mart often. Also they sell spices and exotic foods...sometimes we try them...and sometimes we don’t! There have been other jobs we were offered but they were like underwear shoots and stuff that we not willing to do so we refused! We went to watch a movie on Sunday night it was called "welcome" it was all in Hindi but it was a comedy so we really enjoyed the emotions and the actions! Except that we kept laughing at the wrong things 'cos there were no subtitles, so everyone spend most of the movies watching us! We basically become the comedy show for 50 natives! ha ha! In the middle of the movie, we had intermission…yes in the middle of the movie; apparently this is common practice in Hindi movies. Everyone stands up and goes to the bathroom.  And I’m not even exaggerating when I say they Q like they drive, which is based on the principle of everyman, women or child for themselves! You literally had to chose a door and stand guard right in front of it, moving only to let the previous ‘tenant’ out before making sure you got in before your space was stolen. Needless to say it took a few attempts before we worked out there was no ‘nice’ way of doing this!
Our "local" grocery store...D-Mart
The shops stay open till about 11 every night! It’s pretty crazy! It's always busy. In Mumbai the people and city never sleep! People hoot at each all the time...and it’s totally normal, it usually means move I'm coming past you. They drive crazy, there are no set lanes and people just drive where ever! Also in their culture they don't say please and thank you so I always want to put everyone in the naughty corner for being rude! The mosquito’s here are so super fast...I think it's the curry, also they don't announce themselves with annoying buzzing like ours do...they just bite! Talk about taking no prisoners!
Mickey D's in INDIA!
I know my Gran is worried so I would just like to put her mind at ease...I have not joined any funny religions, I promise! If anything this place has taught me to pray...Pray that no one spits on me, pray that the food is safe, pray that the cars stop making a noise!
Signs like this have little effect on most people...unfortunately...
