I have always loved dancing! I have done a few different forms of dance namely ballet, modern, tap, hip hop, jazz and ballroom. After I left school the dancing times clashed with my work schedule, I was reluctant to give up all dance forms so I started Belly Dancing in 2006, as it was a Saturday class and worked out well for me. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had discovered one of the most freeing dance forms. Belly dancing allows you to be comfortable with your body and to feel the music in your soul.

I am going to tell you something about me that many people know (but of course once I post this the world has the potential of knowing…cyber space can’t keep a secret after all) I have skew arms, as in I cannot physically straighten my arms, and this may not make suitors run off in disgust (although maybe it should, after all our kids could inherit this mutant trait, haha) it does make for a difficult obstacle for a dancer. Most examiners view the inability to straighten your arm as laziness not a physical defect! Hence the reason I HATED dance exams! But that wasn’t the point of my post, the point was I realized Belly dancing was for me when Shanon said in my first lesson “you need to make the move your own, if you don’t want to straighten your arms the whole way don’t” It felt like a sign. And so the journey of Belly dance began!
